Define Oriental Rugs –
Thursday, December 11th, 2008Wow! The oriental rug world is very broad. In an effort to better understand this realm, we should define “oriental.” A definition of this could run on for several days so I’ll make mine as brief as possible.
In my opinion, oriental can describe any rug with a design of which originates anywhere from Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. This could include any quality of rug as well. Hand-knotted, hand-tufted, machine-made, etc.
Now, to dig deeper into this definition would cause us to begin defining specific countries of origin. Persian, Turkish, Afghani, Pakistani, Indian, etc. We’ll go there soon on other posts!
